Expectations realised easily!
Okay I am having some fun with you on this.
You must consider that what you can afford may not be in step with your desires.
The often media hyped frantic affordability crisis of housing prices in Australia is really concentrated around a number of suburbs in Sydney and Melbourne.
Going back a generation( or two), new home buyers would forgo things like concrete driveways and other little add ins ( like internal doors), just to be able afford the house. I know there is always the status focused media driving prestige based purchases. This does make it hard for people to develop realistic expectations on how and where to go for buying a home.
I still remember how some inner city journalists complaining about housing affordability, since they couldn't walk to their studios for work and enjoy their morning latte and smashed avocado on toast. Meanwhile, the rest of Australia has to get up at least 2 hours before work starts to make the commute. Other ones had to fly away for work, weeks at a time from their families, just to ensure there is a home for them.
The reality in housing affordability is not the price. It is the discipline and commitment of the individual aspiring to home ownership. I have watched dedicated couples save and plan for a home while earning an income less than half of others who somehow can't even take charge of their personal finances long enough to even pay out a credit card.
I will tell you how this turned out, the dedicated couple, earning only $75 000.00 per year has just bought their home. Meanwhile, the couple who is earning $250 000.00 per year is still trying to figure it out. Do you want to know the difference of how this occurred ? Priority, purpose and perseverance. They decided that saving for a deposit was the most important thing to do. They had focused on a realistically priced home as their goal. They stuck it out for 3 years and got their home.
The other couple, just are leaving life to chance with out any specific goal or purpose and are financially drifting off course. They don't want to listen, they think that they know it all ( being google experts and all)! So year 2 and still renting with nothing sorted out in the way of a strategy.
One more key thing, one couple listened to me and put together a plan. The other didn't, so I couldn't help them as their eyes and ears and mind were closed. If you want to get started on a plan, give me a call on 04045476765 or email: info@ahlsfinance.com.
